Electralith is developing a direct lithium extraction through a two-step electrodialisys membrane process. The technology is a spin-out from Monash University. The process reduces the cost and water use of lithium extraction from brines. Their process can make lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate. The initial pilot will be performed at Rio Tinto’s Rincon asset in Argentina with potential to expand to North America.
